In Drury Lane Theatre, London, 18th century Britain lives Cat Royal. Found as a baby onm the theatre steps and presumed an orphan she grows up in the theatre and loves the theatre life. The books follow her story from a diamond mystery, a protest for her dear friend Pedro, a trip to France asd a ballet dancing spy, a time spent in the navy, becoming a 'pirate' in Jamacia and in the most recent book a hunt to find her real family.
I first got into these books a few years back, and so far there are 6 books in the series. They are a series of page-turning tales that envolve adventure, mystery, slight romance and its all set in 18th century London.
It's set in the unique style of a playscript. No, not the characters name and a : whenever anyone speaks, but each book starts with the words Curtain Rises and finishes with the words Curtain Falls. The chapter headings are all scene titles, e.g Act Three Scene 2: In which Cat loses her head... and so on.
I seriously recomend this to about the age 8 or 9+ and it is very easy reading, so you can just realx into the story! Also check out Julia Golding's fab website which has Q&A with the characters from the book. I give this series 4 stars and would recomend it to anyone, boys and girls, young and old.
